Gazebo Installation | Elgin, Illinois
A gazebo is always a beautiful addition to a landscape. It creates a well-defined functional space that is protected from the elements and as such, is usable throughout the year if designed / positioned correctly. This space is intimate and elegant, providing the perfect atmosphere for get togethers with friends or for your own personal retreat for things such as reading, yoga, exercising, meditation, etc. The options are endless! Keep in mind too, that this will increase the value of your home!*
*People often then ask if their gazebo is covered by homeowners insurance. Which is a great question as this is a valuable asset. Always refer to your particular homeowners insurance policy and advisor for specifics in your situation. In general though, a gazebo is considered an “other structure” or some structure that is detached from your main dwelling. Under category B of most policies (standard, though this may not apply to you), any outdoor structures would be covered under your policy at 10% of the face value. This would include your gazebo and any other structures in total. Depending on the intricacy of your gazebo, its personal value to you, or the number of other category B items in your yard, this may or may not be enough for you to feel confident. There is always the option of purchasing additional coverage specifically for these outdoor structures. **Always keep in mind though, for insurance to be able to reimburse you for a structure such as this, it has to be well-maintained! As always, this is not a guarantee of any coverage, please discuss with your broker to determine your specific situation.
Things to Consider in an Outdoor Structure
As you are planning this project out, here are a few considerations to help get a better feel for the design.
Function
What will your primary use of this gazebo / pergola / structure be? Any secondary functions?
Size
How much space would be required for the above functions. Be as specific as possible with dimensions here. If this will be a meditative space, you may want to keep it small and cozy but relatively open to the surrounding nature. If a gathering space, for how many people? And what type of furniture will you need to be able to fit into it? Chairs take up a different type of space then do sectional sofas versus a dining set or floor sofas, and you don’t want to end up with a cramped feel.
Type
Hard top or soft top (temporary, easily disassembled for short-term use). Or would a pop-up that can go up and down easily on your own better suit your needs?
Shape
There are many options to choose from, however, the position in your yard will be the biggest consideration here. A corner structure is best with edges. A floating structure within your yard though should be rounded. The most commonly used are round, square, oval, or hexagonal. We recommend a not-so-common option if you have a wide lawn: rectangular or octagonal (can even go decagonal or dodecagonal!).
Utilities
Will you need lights / water run to your structure? Both of these can certainly add value and function to your space.
